Van Nuys, CA (Dec., 04, 2007) – CaesarStone’s “Million Dollar” San Francisco showroom, which opened its doors last fall, has won Interior Design Magazines’ prestigious Merit Award in the showroom category at their Best of Awards 2007. The quartz manufacturer used award-winning architect Dan Brunn for the project.
Brunn, a practicing architect, received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California and his Masters of Architecture from Harvard. He is also one of the youngest architecture instructors teaching at USC. Brunn, who maintains his own design studio, won the award last Thursday.
The CaesarStone showroom is visually driven by a white 150-foot long by 15-foot high wall that divides the showroom from its corporate offices. The showroom also has a stunning backlit 8- by 10-foot wall of CaesarStone’s Concetto that is immediately visible from the entrance. One of Brunn’s goals was to create an at-home atmosphere by capitalizing on the existing windows and natural light, believing it a disservice to architects to design a showroom any other way.
“Working with an existing warehouse shell, one of my key design objectives was the integration of the old with the new; creating a synergistic juxtaposition between the raw existing space and the new pristine space,” said Brunn. “To accomplish this, a careful orchestration of elements is placed within the confines of the existing shell.”
The awards, held at the new TimesCenter in New York, had more than 700 members of the design community in attendance. The program consisted of 19 project categories and 37 product categories. The 59 winners were selected from 930 entries, which were pared down to 224 finalists. The winners were ultimately judged by more than 22,000 Internet votes, while a panel of judges chose project winners.
